"Season’s of Loving"
First Summer’s Kiss
The above poem is about the pain and excitement of the beginning stages of romance and love.
-Elena
Fall Enigma
The above poem is about how romance moves to love and love’s on-set comes with uncertainty and change and in the midst of that change; couples often let go of one another instead of drawing together.
-Elena
Winter’s Romance Burst
The above poem is about the inevitability that couples hurt one another in the course of their relationship. I refer to this hurt as “relationship growing to get to knowing pains”. In order for love to grow and thrive, it can not expand where a hard heart exists. Therefore, it is necessary to forgive one another and yourself for inflicting pain.
-Elena
SpringPromiseGarden
The above poem evolves around the concept that everything in the created world comes back (in reflection) to its original place given enough time. So the seeds (or the actions) that are taken in response to the hard times in relationships returns. In other words, if kindness, support and love have been the predominant feature of the relationship, the couple will eventually enjoy the results of what their actions have created.

HIS WOMAN
“You’ll never be a ‘Modern Woman,’” they tell me.
“All your whims, wants, dreams, needs come before him.”
“It’s what’s right!” I’m reminded,
“He gets what’s remaining of you, (if you choose),”
My feminist sisters proclaim!
“Where is the love in this?” I ask.
“He goes before me in my thinking.
“His welfare, comfort, joy, pains, frustrations, become mine.
“His friends – mine. His enemies – mine.”
Again the “New Woman” thinkers” cringe, “You’re taking that ‘Thing’
About Adam’s Rid to seriously,” they postulate.
“I support and believe in His Light, and gladly stand with him,
or to the side (as appropriate).”
“Girl Friend! You’re Lost!!” they shout.
“You can open the door for yourself,” the solidarity (fist)
waves in the air.
“Women are tough, and frankly, women need men like fish need bicycles,”
the rhetoric continues…
I simply smile, shake my head and consider
what I can do today to make his life better.
“You’re gonna get crushed!”
The crowd gets ugly –
“You can’t treat a man that well!”
“You’re defining yourself by your involvement with a Man,”
they preach, and emphasize the word “Man,” as if they ate bad food.
“You’ll be a Door Mat!” more voices chime in. The far right (or is it left?).
Scolds, “Change your disposition – or you’re a Fool Lady!”
They pounce on me with zest (by now).
What would they say if I told them I’ve actually fed him Grapes?
Or massaged his lowly feet,
or other possible acts of deemed subjugation?
How funny it seems, and sad, the ways in which we humans
distance ourselves from one another.
He has entrusted me with his Heart, and I have given the same.
I cannot dictate to him how to love me,
And, of course, can only receive that which I freely give.
It is my intention to love him fully, and in the best ways that I know,
and from what is to be learned.
“Ladies, judge me
if you must!
But, from my view,
my place is the preference.
To love someone regardless of whether
it is returned in full is God’s Blessing!”
“’It’ is not about
what you are getting,
or demands met.
Petty (issues)
of assertion of will, or related ego,
hold little value when applied to matters of ‘Real Love.’”
“We have a profound union!
And so it is, that I am proud
to be
‘His Woman.’”
This is a poem I wrote while dating my husband George. I had feminist friends who advised me against being too nice and/or loving to George. Interestingly enough, George and I are happily married and the friends that gave me the advice are either single and/or in the throes of divorce. My advice is be true to yourself in the way that you choose to show affection and love!

It’s Over
Taken like air-swift and floating
Seemingly merging
We were sun and moon
Losing Earth and soil
Gaining love
Stars Left
Pain filled the darkness
Tears Fell
As Thunder poured the sky
And in day
I am alone
This poem is about the painful end of a serious love relationship.
-Elena
Tender Morning
The rain
Soft
Shades of Green
Sharpen
Light dances
Quiet
Next to me
Him
Male
Very male
Hmmmmm…..
This poem is about a romantic interlude with my Sweet husband.
-Elena
Letting-Go
In the distance
On a floating dock
Sitting as one
I hear their
Laugh captured in the wind
See their shadows locked
Her hair swept up by his face
His hand touches her
One finger at a time
With care
That look
That I knew
So well
That lovers place
As I watch the couple
Eyes-take in
Images of one another
Dreaming those lovers
Dreams
I remember
I remember well.
This poem is bitter sweet. It is about remembering what it is like to be loved and in love, even though you are not in that place.
-Elena
Cycles
The old curved bridge
Sitting high (in clouds)
Still holds passing trains
While
Far
Below
It
Waters Flow (and swirl)
To the banks
Where season’s
Flowers
Have
Now
Turned
To
The
Earth
This is a poem about things in love coming full circle, and doing so, in their own time and with good reason. It’s like the purpose and learning that comes from pain and ends up having a positive result.
-Elena
Water under the bridge
Waters
Dance
To
Design
Then
Fade
Like
Any
Past
This is a poem about how things can seem to be so important, (like thinking you have found the man of your dreams), only to discover it wasn’t as it seemed. And you survived it.
-Elena
Yin & Yang Examined
While drinking a cup of Green Tea
Here I sit
Pen
In
Hand
Making
Permanent
Those
Impressions
That
Embrace
Me
All the while
Contemplating
How
Or
If
Human
Creation
And
God’s
Gifts
Of
Nature
Ever
Really
Meet.
This is a poem about dichotomies. Humans have a relatively short span in which to be active and beautiful. Nature, like all things, and people, of quality, endure even with the constant turmoil. My question, in this poem, is do people really stay together, and endure like nature? Or do they usually resort to being human and leave. So relationships and love are only short lived?
-Elena
Dreams
Whispers
Of
Water
Caress
Fountains
And
Are
moved
Far
Above
to
Somewhere
While
Soft
Music
Transcends
Into
Magic
This is a poem about fantasy and romance.
-Elena
Creation
Sun
Pierces
Clouds
And
Emits
Light
And Sparks
Finally
Exploding
Into
Day
This is a poem about making love with the potential of creating life.
-Elena
Awakening
Stars
Burst
Like
Lightening
Pounding
And
Shaking
Sky
To
Ground
This is a poem about passion in making love.
-Elena
Mother (Nature)
Walking
The
Lovers
Dance
Sure
And
Steady
Like
Tender Lilies
Drift and Circle
And come
Together
Unknowingly
Clear
Cool
Waters
Take
Them
Much
Deeper
Temperatures
Rise
As
Natures
Reality
Brings
Them
Closer
To Conclusion
This is a poem about making love.
-Elena
Sensibilities
Women hold onto words of love
Like fine jewelry
We drape it around
and about
our wrists and
hearts
For all to see
The glitter.
This poem is about the romantic side of women in love.
-Elena
Moments
In the stillness
After our Intimacy
I rest in the
Safety of your
Arms.
This is a poem about cuddling after making love.
-Elena
Adonis (The player)
With a turn of his handsome face…
He began…I need a best friend….lover…soul mate…someone to cook my steak….I need you to be patient…humorous…..he repeats himself…humorous…as he briefly
Notices my frown…he continues…I need…..I need…I need………
I need…phrases ring in my ears….You want to share your writing with me? some of your poems….um, hmm…of course, I want to hear them… as he yawns and pulls my body on top of his….
This is a poem about the self-centeredness of my ex husband.
-Elena
Day one
Your smile melted my resistance
And allowed me to know
The beauty of your heart.
